Carey Strong Selby, 90, of Cumberland, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born March 3, 1927, in Rock Hall, Mr. Selby was the son of the late Owen Strong Selby and Marie (Carey) Selby. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie Selby; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A graduate of Charlotte Hall Military Academy, Carey also attended the University of Maryland and Allegany College of Maryland. He was a United States Army veteran and was owner/operator of Pied Piper Children's Nursery and Selby Rentals. Carey was formerly employed with the Maryland Department of Transportation. He was a member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, Chestertown. Carey enjoyed hunting, duck hunting, and was an avid fisherman. He loved being outdoors and loved animals of all kind. Carey was a Maryland Terrapins fan.
Carey is survived by his daughter, Susan Buzzerd and Vaughn Trexler, LaVale; his grandson, Ryan Buzzerd and wife, Leeann; his cousin, David Goad and wife, Mary; and his brother-in-law, Michael Small and wife, Cathy.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland,(www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, from 1 to 3 p.m.
A graveside service will be conducted at Saint Paul's Episcopal Cemetery, Chestertown, on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at noon with Father Frank St. Amour officiating.
