Donald Douglas Largent of Harrisonburg, Va., passed away peacefully in his sleep at VMRC on Saturday, July 8, 2017, and is now united with his wife Joan.
Don was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Dunbar, Pa., to George and Gertrude Dunaway Largent.
The family moved to Cumberland, where he graduated from Allegany High School. After high school, Don joined the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean War. After his service, Don came back to Cumberland, and went to work with his dad at G.A. Largent Roofing.
In 1962, Don moved his family to Harrisonburg, where he started a branch of G.A. Largent Roofing Company serving the Harrisonburg and surrounding areas. In the late 60's Don purchased the business from his father and changed the name to Don Largent Roofing, which is still in operation today.
Don was active in the community and involved in the Elks, Masons, Shriners and Lions Club. He was a past president of the Virginia Roofing Association. Don was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church.
On Oct. 24, 1953, he married Joan Marjorie Bosley, who preceded him in death in 2015.
He is survived by his son, Douglas Largent and wife, Sharon; daughter, Kathy Snoddy and husband, Mike; four grandchildren, Aaron Largent, Michelle Long and husband, Zachary, Chad Snoddy and wife, Marla, and Erica Snoddy; two sisters, Nancy Hansel and Joy Cunningham; three sisters-in-law, Anna Buckingham, Linda Carder and Joan Bosley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers-in-law, Herman Cunningham, Don Hansel, Walter Bosley and Richard Buckingham.
His funeral service will be held, Friday, July 14, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, officiated by the Rev. Adam Blagg and Pastor Jim Rodgers.
Entombment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
