Edna June Hansel, 92, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born July 26, 1924, in Cumberland, June was the eldest daughter of the late William Thomas Peebles and Edna Grace (Miller) Peebles. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oliver S. Hansel, Dec. 31, 2011; her brother, Billy Peeples; her sisters, Helen and Joann Peebles; and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Married on Feb. 14, 1946, June was a homemaker. She was very active in her church, the New Covenant United Methodist Church, formerly the First Methodist Church, for many years. June was also a Brownie troop leader.
June is survived by her son, Donald K. Hansel Sr., and wife, Regina; and her grandchildren, Eric M. Hansel and wife, Shawnee, Tori N. Zimmerman and husband, Mike, Donald K. Hansel Jr. and wife, Amy, Herb Carnell and Joann, Cathi Carnell and husband, Clay, Greg Carnell, Troy Carnell and wife, Kelly, Harry Carnell and wife, Tracy; as well as 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, from 4 to 6 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at 6 p.m.
Interment will be in Saint Luke's Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in June's name to the Shriner's Children's Hospital c/o: Ali Ghan Temple, Post Office Box 1416, Cumberland, MD 21501-1416.
