Edward C.'s Story
Edward Clymer "Bud" Whyte III, 88, of Hagerstown, formerly of Fort Ashby, W.Va., died Friday, July 14, 2017, at Somerford Place.
Born Feb. 12, 1929, in Catonsville, he was the son of the late Edward C. Whyte II and Julianna (Prince) Whyte.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Bud also belonged to the National Guard for 34 years. Mr. Whyte was a retired Civil Service employee, having been a federal government inspector. He was also retired from Hercules, Inc. where he was a quality assurance representative.
Mr. Whyte was a member of the Robert White Lodge 67, A.F. & A.M., Martinsburg, W.Va.; Hancock American Legion, Post 26; and Fort Ashby Lions Club.
Bud enjoyed golfing with his buddies, loved being outdoors working in the yard, and always enjoyed a trip to Fort Frederick State Park where he grew up and helped his dad maintain the park.
Bud is survived by his two children, Michael Whyte, Fort Ashby, and Michelle Pope and husband Patrick, Martinsburg; also a special friend, Julia "Pat" McMurtrie, Hagerstown.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at 1 p.m. with Pastor John Sines officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by Fort Cumberland Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
