Elwood L. Bittinger, 71, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully from surgery at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, surrounded by family.
Born March 19, 1946, in Somerset, he was the son of the late Edward S. and Thelma (Murray) Bittinger. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Freda Schrock and Joyce Hollada; two brothers, Raymond and sister-in-law, Joan, and Lawrence Bittinger.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene (Rosenberger) Bittinger; two daughters, Roxanne (Joseph) Edgar, Salisbury; Sherri (Todd) House, Grantsville; five grandchildren, Brandon (Steph) Edgar, Ryan Edgar, Andrea House, Alexis House, and Xavier House; one brother, Paul Bittinger, Salisbury; one sister, Margaret Baker, Boynton; five brothers-in-law, James Schrock, Harold Rosenberger, Bernard Rosenberger, Paul Rosenberger, and Kenneth Hollada; three sisters-in-law, Linda Bittinger, Donna Bittinger, and Brenda Rosenberger; a number of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Jay Hollada, Somerset.
Mr. Bittinger was a heavy equipment operator for 40 years, working for Sanner Coal Co., Action Mining and retiring from Rosebud Mining in 2012. He also operated a landscaping and trimming business for 28 years. Elwood was a wonderful loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury, on Sunday, July 30, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday, July 31, 2017, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ingrid Chenoweth officiating.
Interment will be in Salisbury Cemetery.
