EKEYSER, W.Va. Eugene Dent "Gene" Kuykendall II, 58, of Keyser, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Center in Cumberland.
Born on Feb. 21, 1959 in Keyser, he was a son of Nellie Mae (Rogers) Ashby of Oakland, and the late Eugene Dent Kuykendall. He also was preceded in death by his stepfather, Ward L. Ashby; his grandparents, Dent and Zaida Kuykendall and Norval and Nellie Rogers and a niece, Melissa Ann Pennington.
Mr. Kuykendall was a 1977 graduate of Keyser High School and received his associate degree from Potomac State College. He was employed for 16 years with Chattanooga Glass and was also employed with Ferguson Enterprises in Front Royal, Va., and the Mineral Daily-News Tribune. He ended his career in sales, advertising and promotions. He attended the Fountain United Brethren in Christ Church and was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan.
Surviving, in addition to his mother is his wife, Evonne M. (Eskridge) Kuykendall; two children, Adam Christopher Kuykendall and wife, Jennifer of Carlisle, Pa., and Stephanie Marie Murphy and husband, Fred of Piedmont; five brothers, Jeffrey Kuykendall and wife, Glenda of Keyser, Charles Kuykendall and wife, Renee of Buford, Ga., William Kuykendall and fiancee, Ileana Vazquez of Oklahoma City, Okla., Joshua Kuykendall and special friend, Brandi Troutman of Wiley Ford, and David Ashby of New Jersey; three sisters, Jill Holler and husband, Larry of Oakland, Shawn Lantz and husband, David of Frederick, and Beth Riggs and husband, David of Ohio; five grandchildren, Abel and Caleb Kuykendall and Cody, Madelyn and Ariana Murphy. Also surviving are several dear aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Fountain United Brethren in Christ Church on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at 2 p.m. with Bishop Ronald Kuykendall and Pastor Randy Crowe officiating. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Cabin Run Cemetery, Keyser.
