James David Jones, 66, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017, at his home, in the arms of his wife and soul mate, Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Beckman Jones.
Born, in Cumberland, on Feb. 4, 1951, he was the son of the late Bernard Marvin Jones and Allene Virginia (Westfall) Jones; and his stepmother, Rebecca (Jones) Deahl.
Jimi graduated from Oldtown High School, class of 1969. While in high school, Jimi was a highly skilled and natural athlete, and he excelled at all sports, especially baseball. Jimi attended Allegany College of Maryland before being employed at an oil company in Baltimore. After returning to the area, Jimi was employed in the mental health industry, where he enjoyed helping disabled adults until his retirement.
Jimi was a loving, devoted, and affectionate husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather. He was a good man who had a smile for everyone, and he never met a stranger. He also put others before himself. Jimi was a musician who enjoyed playing his guitar and writing songs.
In addition to his wife, Jimi is survived by three children, David Jones and wife, Mary, Carpendale, W.Va., Amanda Yates and husband, P.J., Norfolk, Va., and Chelsea Castoreno and husband, Stanley, Fort Worth, Texas; stepchildren, Caleb Huff and Abby Huff, both living at home; grandchildren, Sully and Junie Jones, Harper Yates, Stanley Jr., Makenna, Dylan, and J.D. Castoreno; brothers, William M. Jones and Robert Jones and wife, Connie, Fayetteville, N.C.; and stepsister, Pamela Palmisano and husband, Mike, New Orleans, La.; and special mom, Louise McMillan.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Thursday, June 8, 2017, from 3 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, June 9, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Nelson officiating. Following the service, he will be cremated.
Liz has requested that the members of the family and their friends refrain from sending flowers. Those wishing to honor Jimi's memory may do so by making contributions toward his funeral expenses.
