SHORT GAP, W.Va. Kenneth W. Hartman, 79, of Short Gap, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 1, 1937, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Cullom and Opal (Pigott) Hartman.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael W. Hartman; two brothers, Harry C. Hartman Sr. and Calvin J. Hartman; three sisters, Roberta Baker, Mary Cheeks, and Neva Hartman; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Troy and Elma Taylor.
Mr. Hartman was a graduate of Ridgeley High School and attended West Virginia University.
He had been a truck tire builder at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company.
Mr. Hartman was a member of Graceland Baptist Church, Davis Lodge 51, A.F. & A.M., and the Horseshoe Hunting Club. He had also served in the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy (Taylor) Hartman; four daughters, Cindy Hoover, Inwood, Diana Long and husband, Bill, Slanesville, Debra Merritt and husband, Bradley, Augusta, and Cathy Long and husband, John, Romney; one brother, Carl Hartman, Montrose; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, three nephews, five nieces, and his beloved dog, Sadie.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Graceland Baptist Church, with Pastor Dan Twigg, officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
