Kenneth Ray Johnston, 76, formerly of Westernport, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Rest Assured Assisted Living Center, Meyersdale, Pa., where he had been a resident.
Born May 13, 1941, in Westernport, he was the son of the late John Albert Johnston Sr. and the late Hazel Ellen (Miller) Johnston. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Shaffer and Evelyn Johnston.
Kenny was a 1959 graduate of Bruce High School. He retired from Acme Market in White Oaks Shopping Center, Cumberland, having been produce manager. He was formerly a Sunday school teacher and a long-time member of Tri-Towns Fire Company 1, Piedmont, W.Va., having been 2nd chief and also known as "The Hook." In his earlier years Kenny was an avid outdoorsman. He loved four wheeling, fishing and hunting especially at Savage River State Forest.
He leaves behind a daughter, Jennifer Sentelle and husband Eddie of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; two brothers, John A. Johnston and wife, Bess, of Westernport and Paul Allen Johnston Sr. of Keyser, W.Va.; two sisters, Mary Eloise Foley of Grantsville and Lois Ellen Marks of Kalamazoo, Mich. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Haley Johnson, Ralin Pierce, Kayla Sentelle, Faith Sentelle, and Paige Sentelle; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Carl Cowan officiating.
Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Ark of Hope Animal Rescue in Oldtown.
