Maxine LaVerne Curry, 90, of LaVale, passed away Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born October 7, 1926, in Portland, Ore., Mrs. Curry was the daughter of the late Raymond Leroy Shaffer and Ida LaVerne (Kinzey) Shaffer. She was also preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Carlton Joseph Curry.
A graduate of Allegany High School, Class of 1946, Maxine was formerly employed with the Allegany County Board of Education in food services. She was a member of the New Covenant United Methodist Church and previously was very active at Kingsley United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Methodist women and a former member of McKinley Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
Maxine is survived by her son, David Curry, and wife, Linda; and her daughter, Gayle LaVern Smith, and husband, Peter, all of Cumberland. She also leaves behind her sister, Marilyn Carros, Wilmington, Del.; her grandchildren, Tracy Ott, Christina Resh and husband, Shaun, Melissa Grapes and husband, Robert, Nathan Curry and wife, Amanda, and Michael Scell and wife, Sarah; her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Painter, Evan Scell, Jackson Resh, Joshua Armstrong, Jameson Resh, Maddyson Scell, Nevaeh Grapes, Olivia Curry, Jacob Resh, Paxtin Scell, Cohyn Scell; and her dog, Ginger.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, from 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Dr. Chris Gobrecht and the Reverend Richard Jewell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
