Paul's Story

Paul E. Lowery, 88, of LaVale, passed away on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at the Allegany Health, Nursing, and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on Jan. 20, 1929, in Johnstown, Pa., and raised in Cooks Mill, Cumberland, and LaVale, he was the son of the late George Raymond and Irene (Lowery) Lowery. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Betty May and Dorothy Diehl; brothers, Ray Lowery and Jack Lowery; sister-in-law, Roselyn Lowery; and brothers-in-law, Charlie Jenkins, Pete Elliott, and Jerry May.
Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948. While in the service, he was stationed in Virginia, Germany, Korea, New York, France, California, and Maryland. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1970 with 22 years of service. He then worked as an animal control officer and later as a maintenance worker at the Thomas B. Finan Center, from where he retired.
Paul was a member of Park Place United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 13, VFW Post 1411, and was a lifetime member of the DAV.
He is survived by his sisters, E. Louise Elliott, Cumberland, Carol Jenkins, LaVale, and Joan Wilson and husband, Kenny, Bel Air; brother, Robert Lowery and wife, Lynda, Cresaptown; nieces and nephews, Polly, Linda, Mike, Kathy, Cheryl, Cindy, Christina, Charity, Kenny Jr., Scott, Steven, Danny, Kenny, Shelby, and Robin; 24 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 23 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
In accordance with Paul's wishes, he will be cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted at Park Placed United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dan Twigg and Pastor Vicki Cubbage officiating.
Inurnment will be in Cooks Mill Cemetery, Hyndman, Pa.
Paul's first memories were of living in Cooks Mill by the railroad tracks and thought it only fitting to be buried not far from those same tracks in Cooks Mill Cemetery with several of his family members.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Park Place United Methodist Church, 80 National Highway, Cumberland, MD 21502.
