SHANKS, W.Va. Richard Hamilton Kolb, 82, of Shanks, (formerly of Montgomery County) passed away Monday, May 8, 2017, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va.
Born March 20, 1935 he was the son of the late Walter G. and Gladys (May) Kolb. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Kolb Jr. and Kenneth Kolb.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary E. Kolb and their children, Richard H. Kolb Jr. and wife, Roberta of Mount Airy, Joyce K. Miley and husband, Richard of Shanks, and Donna K. Richard graduated from High School in Bethesda, immediately going to work for his father at Kolb Electric. He and Mary started dating in 1955, marrying in 1957 and beginning their family. At Kolb Electric, Richard started at the bottom, working his way up to owning a sizeable, family business. In 1969, the Kolbs bought their first parcel of land in West Virginia, traveling back and forth on the weekends and spending summers here. For Richard, much stress was left behind in the hills of Hampshire County, and many memories made by the entire family. Everyone worked, kids included, and as the years went by, more land was acquired. Richard loved coming to the the farms and his Black Angus cattle. Many from Hampshire County will remember Mary and Richard owning The Primrose restaurant in the early 90's. He was one of those personalities that liked to be in control and was seldom reluctant to share his opinion or sarcastic side. Richard's magnetic personality was an open and friendly one who enjoyed the friendships and loyalty of many.
