Stephen "Steve"'s Story
SALISBURG, Pa. Stephen "Steve" H. Pope, 75, of Salisbury, passed away following a brief illness on Sept. 22, 2017, at home.
Born Sept. 17, 1942, in Frostburg, the son of Claude S. and Regina (Loraditch) Pope. Preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Father Benedict Pope OFM Cap.
Survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna (Oester) Pope; daughter, Faith Ritchie and husband, Jody, Frostburg; brother of James (Delores) Pope, Gaithersburg, Eugene Pope, Salisbury, Earl (Rosezita) Pope, Mount Savage, and David Pope, Grantsville. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Steve was a 1960 graduate of Salisbury Elk Lick High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served 1 year in Seoul, South Korea as an MP. Steve was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, West Salisbury; the Grantsville American Legion, Post 214; Vietnam Veterans of America; the Salisbury VFW; and was a 50 year member of the Salisbury Fire Department.
At Steve's request, there will be no visitation.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, West Salisbury, with Father Francis Fugini OFM Cap. Committal to follow at St. Ann's Cemetery, Avilton, with military graveside rites by the Grantsville American Legion, Post 214. A fellowship meal will be held at the Avilton Community Hall following the committal service.
