Surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 25, 2017, Sue Bartlett Eckhart passed away peacefully at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, W.Va.
Sue was born on July 9, 1929, to Will Fred and Richard Peyton Bartlett in Parkersburg. She graduated from Allegany High School, Cumberland, in 1948 and was considered a Campus Leader with the "three-fold gift of brains, talent and beauty." Sue's educational pursuits culminated in a Master's degree in Psychology from Frostburg State University in Frostburg.
Sue applied her degree and empathetic, altruistic nature to aiding those in need at the Allegany County Health Department in Cumberland, where she worked as a counselor until 1990. After retiring, Sue generously volunteered as a grief counselor for Hospice of Garrett County.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard "Dick" Bartlett; her sister, JoAnn Knudsen; her husband and the love of her life, Jonathan Eckhart and her grandson, Zachary Eckhart.
She leaves her three children and numerous grandchildren, her eldest son, Don Sensabaugh Jr., (Sheryl) and his children, Sara, Zach, Jessica, Dani and great-grandson, A.J. Nguyen; her daughter, Sheri Sensabaugh (Russ Betz), and her two children, Chelsea and Fleming; her youngest, David Sensabaugh (Nikole), and his four children, Christina, Marissa, Weston and Abagail.
Twice blessed, Sue was also stepmother and step grandmother to Jonathan Eckhart's four and seven grandchildren, Jonathan Bradford Eckhart (Joyce) and his two children, Zachary (deceased) and Megan, Debra Simpson (George) and her two sons Alexander and Andrew, Jay Lake Eckhart (Susan) and his three children, Jayson (Jenny), daughter, Ella, Sean and Miranda Asbury (Josiah); Penny Eckhart.
Described by her friend as a shining light and the dearest person they knew Sue had the ability to make everyone feel appreciated, loved, and a part of her own family.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. at her beloved home on Deep Creek Lake, 2001 Marsh Hill Road, McHenry.
