W. Jean's Story
FROSTBURG - W. Jean Breighner, 69, of Frostburg, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at her home.
She was born Jan. 14, 1948, in Altoona, Pa., to the late Eugene and Winifred (Stapleton) Dumm. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Edward Leo Breighner.
She graduated from Bishop Guilfoyle High School in the class of 1965. Following graduation, she became a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Baden, Pa., and attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Later, she when on to Mount Aloysius College where she obtained a degree in nursing, and then began to work for the late Dr. John Sheedy. She then met and married Ed in 1975, which brought Jean to Cumberland and she began to work at Sacred Heart Hospital as a registered nurse. She soon retired from nursing to join her husband in their business, Breighner Cabinetry & Remodeling Inc., where she worked for 30 years. Jean was a big University of Notre Dame football fan, lover of cats whom there are too many to name, and enjoyed working on crafts. However, above all, Jean loved spending time with her family.
Jean is survived by her son, Tom Breighner and wife, Laura of Frostburg; and their son, Cameron; one cousin, Janice Bartel of Pennsylvania; and her best friend, Carol Kirchner of Cumberland; along with an extended family.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, on Friday, July 28, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 8 p.m.
A Mass of the Christian burial will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church, 44 E Main St., Frostburg, on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Father Ed Hendricks officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Cumberland.
