Walter Titchenell, 94, of Martinsburg, formerly of Oldtown, Md., died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center.
Born Aug. 4, 1923, in Terra Alta, he was the son of the late Walter and May (Ashby) Titchenell.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; a son, Steve Titchenell; and, a sister, Gwyneth Tall.
Mr. Titchenell was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was aboard the USS Columbia.
Mr. Titchenell had been self-employed as a barber as well as a school bus driver in Allegany County.
He had been a worship leader at Liberty Christian Fellowship in Cresaptown. Walter attended Hedgesville Assembly of God, where he enjoyed working with the Royal Rangers.
Mr. Titchenell was proud of the music relationship he had with Dusty Shaffer (of WTBO) and singing gospel songs together in the surrounding area.
Survivors include his four children, Nancy Logan, N.C., Jenene Updike, Oldtown, Mariana Bucy, Cumberland, and James Titchenell, Frostburg; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017, from noon until 1 p.m. The service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gary L. Gordon officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens where military honors will be accorded by Fort Cumberland Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
