William "Willie"'s Story
CUMBERLAND - William "Willie" Dawson Smith, 92, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 19, 1924, in Louise, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Charles William Smith and Myrtle Viola (Stewart) Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, George A. Smith and Charles W. Smith; and his sisters, Margaret Kelly, Helen Wilson, Geneva Hamilton, and Betty Messman.
A graduate of Allegany High School, class of 1942, Willie was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in World War II from 1943 to 1946. He retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Company. Willie loved a good yard sale.
Willie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Smith; his stepson, Philip Smith and wife, Yumiko; his brother, Robert A. Smith; and his granddaughter, Emmie Smith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Saturday, July 1, 2017, from 11 a.m. to noon.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at noon with Pastor Lisa Boone officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
