Williiam "Bill"'s Story
RIDGELEY, W.Va. William "Bill" L. Shepherd, 70, died Friday, June 16, 2017, at Ruby Memorial Hospital of WVU.
Born Sept. 14, 1946, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Louis Frank Shepherd and Della Irene (Heaps) Gulick.
Bill served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant.
Bill had also worked for Bayliner, Western Maryland Distributors, and had been an assistant at Hafer Funeral Service, P.A.
He belonged to William E. Shuck Jr. Memorial Post 136, American Legion for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Redmen's Club. Bill enjoyed golf, NASCAR, and going to the races.
Survivors include his beloved companion, Orpha Lancaster; three sons, James "Rick" Shepherd, Butler, Pa., William Shepherd, Boardman, Ohio, and Edward Shepherd, Ellerslie; several grandchildren including Jacob, Abby and Rebecca Shepherd, Bryce Shepherd, and Christina Cutter. Bill also has four siblings, Carol Burleson, Shirley Stachowiak, Frank Shepherd, and Ray Shepherd. "Tiki" was his special cat.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held later this summer. He will be interred at Maryland State Veterans Cemetery-Rocky Gap.
