Alma Lucille Malcolm Obituary
Springfield, West Virginia - Alma Lucille Malcolm, age 85, of Springfield, W.Va., passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser. Born July 2, 1938, Alma was the daughter of the late Joseph Brian Keplinger and Icee (Hartman) Keplinger.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Malcolm; four brothers, Joseph Keplinger, Sterling Keplinger, Bruce Keplinger, and Richard Keplinger; and one sister, Tressie (Keplinger) Moyers Counter.
Alma was a well-rounded, self-made woman. She had several jobs over the years, including working at the Old Mill Tavern and The Dip Tavern, which she and Boyd owned and operated. She was a housekeeper at Winchester Medical Center, a bartender at the American Legion Post 91, and she also worked at Kinney Shoe Corporation. She retired from Pilgrim's Pride in the early 2000s.
After retirement, she needed something to keep her busy, so she went into business for herself again and opened her own pizza shop, M&M Pizza. She made several life-long friends while serving up smiles every day. Alma was dedicated to her community. She joined the Springfield Valley Volunteer Fire Company in the mid-1980s and was a life member. She loved to help anyone she could, whether it be providing meals to those in need, running to help a friend or family in need, or just giving someone some well-meaning advice.
Alma loved to work in her son's and grandson's chicken houses. She would stay for hours to make sure things went as they should, and that everything was done correctly. Aside from working, she loved spending time with her family, and traveling with her best friend.
She is survived by two sons, Welton (Liz) Malcolm and Tad (Stephanie) Malcolm, all of Springfield; four grandchildren, Christine, Jason, and Zach Malcolm, all of Springfield, and Cody Malcolm of Augusta. She is also survived by two brothers, William (Rosemary) Keplinger and Johnny (Janet) Keplinger, all of Moorefield; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend and partner in crime, Carol Hechler.
Friends will be received on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Springfield Valley Volunteer Fire Company in Springfield, from 2 p.m. till 4 p.m., followed immediately by a Celebration of Life service officiated by Pastor Harold George. All are welcome to attend to honor Alma and share some memories with the family. Dinner will be provided by the Springfield Valley Volunteer Fire Company.
