SPRINGS, Pa. - Alton J. "A.J." Wiley, 70, of Springs, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 at his residence. Born Aug. 11, 1941, in Springs, he was the son of the late Viett E. and Martha (Killius) Wiley. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Carolyn (Wiley) Yoder, Emma Jane and Dorothy June Wiley; and a brother, David Wiley. A.J. was a contractor who built many houses and commercial buildings and restored historic log structures. He gave a number of young people in the community their start in the building trade, and he had a heart for kids and the needy. He was a member of Springs Mennonite Church. He is survived by his wife, Phoebe (Beachy) Wiley; three children, Melody (Dee) Hetrick and husband, Dave, Grantsville, James Wiley, Irving, Texas, Debra Baer and husband, Jesse, Melcroft, Pa.; one brother, Mark Wiley, Fishertown, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Cassandra and Chelsea Wilburn and Dallas Hetrick. Friends will be received on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Springs Mennonite Church. Funeral services will be conducted in the church on Monday, Dec. 5, 2011 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Owen Guengerich officiating. Friends will also be received one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in Springs Cemetery.
