Barbara Jean Tomsic Obituary

Williamsport, Maryland - Barbara Jean Filsinger Tomsic, 85, of Williamsport, died Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Williamsport Retirement Village in Williamsport, Md. She had been a resident of their long-term care nursing facility.

Born on Aug. 1, 1938, in Eckhart Mines, Md., she was the daughter of the late George and Anna Estella (Porter) Filsinger. She was preceded in death by ex-husband, Anthony (Tony) Tomsic; son-in-law, Donald M. Mannick, Jr. (Mike); one brother, George E. 'Bud' Filsinger II; and four sisters, Emma Bennett, Margaret Holsinger, Frances Lewis and Ruth Offutt. She was the youngest sibling and the last of her family.

Surviving are her two children, Vanessa Mannick of Hagerstown and Craig Tomsic and his wife Tess of Sharpsburg, Md.; as well as her six grandchildren, Jena Mannick and fiancé, Kenny Lamb of Williamsport, Seth Mannick, Dylan Mannick, and Matthew Mannick of Hagerstown, Josh Tomsic of McHenry, Md., and Olivia Tomsic and fiancé Garman Bowers of Fairplay, Md. She is also survived by great-grandson, Michael Lamb of Williamsport; many nieces and nephews, including Joey Stakem and Peggy Getty to whom she was close with; and dear friend, Vivian Stevens.

Barbara graduated from Beall High School. She had an early career as a beautician at Athey's and then later she was employed at Frostburg State University in the housekeeping department. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Frostburg. Midlife, Barbara enjoyed making and having lasagna dinners for family, making peanut butter eggs at Easter with her sister, Frances, going on day trips with her sister, walking, catalog shopping and following politics. Later in life she loved to go out to eat, attend church, visit with her kids, and spend time with her Siamese cats, Trinket and Trevor. She was also super proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed their visits.

Her body will be cremated. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Sowers Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m.
