Virginia Beach, VA - VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Barry F. Hoopengardner, 85, of Virginia Beach, and of Flintstone, passed away June 18, 2025.

Born May 13, 1940, in Cumberland, Barry was the son of the late Asbury Buck Hoopengardner and Maxine (Wheeler) Hoopengardner. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marion; and his sister, Bonnie Ann Haynes.

He served for six years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, and was promoted to rank Specialist E6.

Barry taught World History, U.S. History, and Geography classes for 2.5 years in Harford County, Maryland, and in the juvenile justice system.

He attended Central Assembly of God Church and Vineyard Community Church.

Barry is survived by his sister, Cathy Mullins, Manassas, Virginia; his daughter, Dr. Beth Helm and husband, Brian, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and his son, Dr. Barry M Hoopengardner, Bristol, Connecticut. He also leaves behind his granddaughters, Faith and Joy Helm.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home from 3 to 4 p.m., with the Reverend Gene Riffey officiating.

Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
