Frostburg, Maryland - Its with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of JR Huestis, a beloved father, brother, and best friend, who left this world far too soon. As the devoted father of Barry Huestis III and Alexis Kastell, JR often said that his greatest achievement was his children. His love for them knew no bounds, and he took immense pride in watching them grow into the incredible young adults they are today.
Preceded in death by his parents, Barry Huestis Sr. and Judy Huestis, JR is survived by his half-sister, Laura Kight; his cherished children, Barry and Alexis; his ex-wife and best friend, Adrienne Kastell; and his beloved cats, Dingus, Max, and Rudy.
In these last couple years, JR deepened his relationship with God, regularly attending church after giving his life to Christ.
JR was a man of many interests, from ghost-hunting as a young adult to most recently, the joy he found in Ham radio, where he made some amazing friends. As a dedicated teacher, he was passionate about sharing his knowledge of computers with his students, and he often volunteered to help those in need, whether by giving rides to those without transportation or feeding hungry children. His caring nature shone through in all he did, never expecting anything in return.
Most of all, JR treasured the moments spent with family, filled with laughter, games, and heartfelt conversations. His warmth and playful spirit enriched our lives, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable sarcasm. He will be profoundly missed by all who were blessed enough to know him.
Family and friends will be received at Sowers Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m., with funeral services following at 6 p.m., with Pastor Jim Jeffries officiating.
