Betty Sue Updyke Obituary

QUARRYVILLE, Pa. [mdash] Betty Sue Updyke, age 78, of Quarryville passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025.

Born in Maryland to Dorsey Morlan Goff and Edythe Mildred (née Griffith) Goff, Betty was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and cherished sister. She was the beloved wife of the late Kevin Updyke and former wife of David Fishel Sr.

Betty's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her children: Melanie Johnson (Mark), Tammy Waldo (Seth), Jason Updyke, Beth McNeal (Don), and David Fishel Jr. (Tamiya); by her 10 adoring grandchildren; and by her 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Goff.

Betty had a creative spirit and a heart full of warmth. She loved crocheting, cross-stitch, and piecing together puzzles. A fan of 1950s and '60s music, old cars, and dirt track racing, she also found joy in visiting Florida whenever she could.

Her affection for strawberries was legendary— if it had a strawberry on it, she had to have it.

Proud of her family's strong military heritage, Betty came from a long line of service members representing nearly every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines.

Betty Sue will be remembered for her kind heart, her creative hands, and the deep love she shared with those lucky enough to know her.
