Cumberland, Maryland - Bonnie J. Bishop, 82, passed away Friday, April 3, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her children.

Born Nov. 26, 1943, in Cumberland, Md., Bonnie was the daughter of the late Bruce G. Swan and Charlotte C. (Dorn) Swan. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Donna Bailey.

Bonnie graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1961. She was an exceptionally talented seamstress who spent many years creating custom draperies at Warhaft's, the Forum, and from her home while raising her children. She later dedicated 25 years of service to the State of Maryland at the Thomas B. Finan Center.

After retiring, Bonnie loved to travel and enjoyed more than 20 years as a "snowbird" in Florida. She especially loved the warm pool weather, blue skies and lush surroundings, as well as the many friendships she formed at Spruce Creek Preserve near Ocala. There, she stayed active in her community, participating in neighborhood clubs, bowling, card games and Bunco.

Throughout her life, Bonnie pursued countless hobbies and excelled at all of them. In addition to drapery work, she created beautiful clothing, cross-stitch, tole painting, floral arrangements, knitting, and quilting—often gifting her personalized creations to family and friends. She also took pleasure in frequent luncheons and planning class reunions with her classmates.

Bonnie found great joy in cooking and baking for others. She generously donated cakes to charitable causes and delighted everyone she knew with both old favorites and new recipes. Notably, she won a chili cook-off three consecutive years, each time with a different recipe.

She is survived by her beloved and devoted children, Lora Dorman and husband Eric, and Mark Bishop and wife Tracey. She was also aunt to her cherished niece, Vicki Hoover (Rick); and great-aunt to Grant Hoover and Clay Hoover (Kaley).

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the healthcare professionals at WVU Morgantown and Keyser who provided compassionate care and support during Bonnie's illness.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in her honor.
