Frostburg, MD - Brenda Ann (Garlitz) Ritchie, 67, of Frostburg, Md., died at her home on May 31, 2025.

Born May 9, 1958, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Albert & Wanda (Warner) Garlitz. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lisa Garlitz; one brother, Terry Garlitz; two nieces, Kimberly Minnick & Tabitha Garlitz; and one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Garlitz.

Brenda was employed by Peace Care Health Mountain City Center, Frostburg.

She loved visiting any ocean she could. Her feet in the sand and the salty air on her skin brought a smile to her face and ease to her soul.

Brenda loved her grandchildren with every part of her being. She usually had one or all by her side, on any given day. The house will no longer sing of "you are my sunshine;" her and Destiny's favorite song.

She is survived by two sons, Marty (Lindsay) Ritchie, Avilton; Scott (Keirsha) Ritchie, Frostburg; five grandchildren, who were the sunshine of her life - Destiny, Leah, Luke, Zoey, Sophia; five siblings, Eugene Garlitz, Bedford, Pa.; Keith Garlitz & wife, Rita, Grantsville; Rick Garlitz & Renee Garlitz & husband, Bob, all of Avilton; Kathrina Mason & husband, Dave, Frostburg; along with numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own; and special friend Bruce Opel who brought happiness & enjoyment back to her life.

God called your name so softly

That only you could hear.

And no one heard the footsteps

Of the Angels drawing near.

The golden gates stood open

God saw you needed rest.

His garden must be beautiful

He only takes the best.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller Street, Grantsville, on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday, June 6, 2025, @ 11 a.m., with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating. Interment will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Avilton. Those serving as pallbearers are Luke Ritchie, Josh Mason, Matt Mason, Michael Garlitz, Jason Garlitz and Todd Garlitz.
