Carl T. Miltenberger Obituary

Cumberland, MD - Carl Thomas Miltenberger, Esq., 63, of Cumberland, Md., passed away surrounded by family on April 11, 2026, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital Pittsburgh due to an unexpected illness.

He was born Jan. 31, 1963, to Hilda and the late Jack Miltenberger. He met his wife Kimberly, and they were married in 1983 until his passing. They began a family and spent many years away from the area before returning to build and settle into their home on the family mountain in 2004.

Carl graduated from UMBC with a BA in economics and finance and obtained a juris doctorate from the University of Idaho College of Law. He practiced law for 30 years, from 1996 to 2026, established a family-run practice, and served in many community and legal organizations during that time.

His private practice specialized in assisting the elderly and families of our community. He was always quick to say how proud he was of his opportunity to help people during their most trying times.

His career and life was likewise family-oriented. Carl would be very proud to know that his son Alexander is continuing the family practice in service of those who need support — including the support his own family needs now.

His children were his joy, and anytime he could, took the opportunity to boast about them and their adventurous lives. Carl was also a dedicated hobbyist. He enjoyed woodworking, oil-painting, reading widely, tending the family property, and ensuring the never-ending construction projects were indeed never-ending. Though he lived a life with many travels, he often said that the woodlands he walked and cared for would be the only place he ever could call home.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kimberly Miltenberger; and his five children, Alexander and wife Leah, Oliver, Augustus, Emerson and wife Rachel Rase, and Olympia Liller and her husband Cody. The lattermost are expecting Carl's first grandchild this autumn, and he loved them before they could meet. He was also a brother to Kenneth, Jeffery, and the late Donald Miltenberger. In addition to many late pets, he is survived by the family dogs: Berly, Izzy, Zoey and BIRDDOG.

He found much joy in the often underappreciated and mundane things in life. He loved his place in this world and, posthumously, if he had one wish, it is likely to be that you enjoy, rather than grieve the memories of him. He would also take heart in knowing that the family dinner table will always be full and it will continue to have those he loved eating, remembering him, and laughing around it.

In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated.
