OAKLAND [mdash] Carl William Spiker, 81, of Oakland, died on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on April 1, 1943, in Westernport, he was the son of the late Harrison Carl and Ida (Smiley) Spiker.

Carl was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in Germany during the Vietnam War.

He retired in 2005 after 20 years of service with the Garrett County Roads Department. Previously, he had worked for Timken Roller Bearing Company in Canton, Ohio; Bill's Marine Service; D & L Coal; and Mettiki Coal.

He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Oakland and the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post #71.

Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, reading westerns, and traveling. Most of all, he loved spending time with family.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Shirley (Green) Spiker; his son, Dr. J. Scott Spiker and wife, Amy Reeves Spiker, of Solon, Ohio; his grandsons, Jacob S. Spiker and Caleb W. Spiker of Solon, Ohio; sisters, Betty Moses and husband, Charles; and JoAnn Spiker and husband, David, all of Lonaconing; a sister in law, Cindy Spiker, of Lonaconing; brother in law, Donald Bray, of Westernport; and several loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Mary Parker, Nancy Bray, James Spiker, Robert Spiker, and Thomas Spiker; and sisters-in-law, Sue Spiker and Linda Spiker.

Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. 2nd St., Oakland, on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, from 3 to 6 p.m., and at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 6 S 2nd St., Oakland, on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. with Rev. Carrie Hoff officiating.

Interment will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens with military honors accorded by the combined honor guard of the American Legion Post #71 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077.
