Charles Dennis Moffatt (Denny) Obituary
Charles "Denny" Moffatt, Sr., 78, of Frostburg, Md., and formerly of Lonaconing, Md., passed away on Nov. 26, 2024. Our Country is in mourning, for a soldier died today (Just a simple soldier).
Born on Feb. 9, 1946, at Miners Hospital in Frostburg, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Edward "Chill" Moffatt and Elsie Hobel Moffatt. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Julie Marie Moffatt, on June 12, 1970; and his sister, Linda Moffatt Kight, in 2015.
Denny was a 1964 graduate of Valley High School in Lonaconing, Md. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969, stationed on the USS Blandy (1965-67) and USS Stormes (1967-69). During his service, Denny achieved the rank of Petty Officer Second Class (FTG2), specializing as a Fire Control Technician (Guns). Denny also became a Shellback after crossing the Equator.
After his naval service, Denny worked as an electrician and electronics technician at Westvaco, where he remained until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion Post 214 in Grantsville, Md.
Denny was an avid walker and a devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. He cherished weekends spent playing cards with his family and discussing Fantasy Football strategies. Denny was known for his generosity and kindness.
Denny shared 54 wonderful years with the love of his life, Barbara Braskey Moffatt, who he called Barbie Doll. Together, they spent many years in Florida, Myrtle Beach, Ocean City, and Atlantic City. At home, they treasured their mornings on the porch, drinking coffee, and chatting with their neighbors.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sons, Charles D. Moffatt of North Huntingdon, Pa., and Joe Moffatt of Frostburg, Md.; his daughter, Carey Moffatt of Cumberland, Md.; his grandchildren, Brandon, Gina, and Erica Moffatt; and his sisters, Donna, Judy (Bill), and Sandy (Bill). He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Jim Braskey, Frostburg, Md. and John Braskey (Pam) of Grantsville, Md.; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Denny will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
