Cheryl Diane Schell Obituary

Cheryl Diane Harris-Schell

Born - May 12, 1951

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard (Keith) Schell; parents, Melvin and Helen Harris of Frostburg; and friends, Ida DeGraw, Jennie Divelbiss, and Bev McGowan of Hagerstown.

She is survived by her only brother, Melvin E. Harris of Frostburg; sister-in-law, Rose Booth, Midland; nephew, Keith Booth, Midland; and several beloved pets. Cheryl is also survived by best friend for life, Vicki Warne Robison; and her daughter, Meghan Gaumer, Frostburg; Douglas Pittsnogle and Alex Sanchez Peña, Hagerstown; Tina Cameron, Clear Spring; John C. Williams, Cumberland; Judy Shipley, Kathy Thornhill, Mary Saum, and many other friends and associates in Hagerstown (including her gym buddies, Ann Palmer and Tammy Russell).

Cheryl was a graduate of Frostburg University with a BA degree in Foreign Languages and a Master's degree in Education. She taught in West Virginia, at Saint Maria Goretti High School, in Washington County Public Schools, and in Correctional Education at RCI and MCTC for a total of over 45 years.

Cheryl loved traveling, movies, theatre, history, and reading.

As an avid animal lover, there was no living creature that Cheryl did not like. Cheryl worked with her late husband, Keith, on rehabilitating many abused animals. Cheryl was a strict vegetarian and had a lifetime membership to PETA. She donated her time and money to many local animal charities all her life.

Cheryl wanted to donate her body to science, and she did not want any services. Her ashes will be interred in Frostburg Memorial Park near her parents and husband.

Cheryl would appreciate memorial donations made in her honor, and it is her request that those be made to Kitty Angels, Humane Society of Washington County, Animal Shelter of Cumberland, or PETA.

Cheryl loved The Little Prince and often said everything we needed to live our lives was right in that book. She often quoted it. "On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur; l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."
