Cresaptown, MD - Clarence "Bud" Samuel Hagelin Jr., 86, of Cresaptown-Bel Air, Md., went to be with the Lord and peacefully passed surrounded by his family on Sept. 30, 2025, at the Frostburg Rehab Center.
He was born July 16, 1939, in Frederick, Md., to the late Clarence Sr. and Mabel Hagelin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Hagelin; and a brother, John Hagelin.
Bud graduated from Walkersville High School in 1957, then served his country with the U.S. Army in the military police and special intelligence. Following, he served his community of Thurmont, Md., as the chief of police, and was especially proud of assisting the Secret Service while Presidents visited Camp David and Harriet Chapel Church, including sitting next to Pres. Johnson and the first lady at church. Also in Thurmont, he owned and operated the Red Door Sub Shop. Bud then started a new career as a liquor and wine salesman for Churchill Distributors, covering Allegany and Garrett Counties, Md., until his retirement.
Bud loved his time as chief of police, a lifetime of fast-pitch softball, antiquing, the Baltimore Orioles, and watching westerns. He was a past president of The Lions Club of Thurmont, Md., and a member of the LaVale Club.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Debi Hagelin; sons, Neil Hagelin and wife Susan, Eric Hagelin and wife Catherine, and B.J. Curtis and wife Vy; six grandchildren, Heather Hassett (Trent), Julie Santos (Chris), Jon Erik Hagelin, Nathan Hagelin (Nicole), Ryan Hagelin, and Emily Hagelin; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Geraldene Stitley, Delores Campbell, Lorraine Kuhn and Lois Small (Gene); and his large extended family, including numerous nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
