LaVale, Maryland - Clarence "Red" Fansler Jr., 87, of LaVale, Md., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, at Frostburg Rehab Center.
Born June 29, 1938, in Elkins, W.Va., Mr. Fansler was the son of the late Clarence Fansler Sr. and Millie (Moore) Fansler. He was also preceded in death by three infant siblings, Bertha, Walter and Billy; two sisters, Mary Lee Wolfe and Willa Jean Cool; his nephew, John Little; son-in-law, Edward Powell; and his father and mother-in-law, Arthur Hannas and wife Lillian Hannas-Heavner.
Red attended Allegany High School. From 1955-1961, he was in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command and spent one year in the 167th Air Guard in Martinsburg. Red worked for Newport News Ship Building and Dry Dock Company from 1961-1963, Celanese Fibers Corporation and the Cumberland Macaroni Factory from 1966-1975, and for Clarence Fansler's Home Improvements from 1975-1982. He was a member of the Potomac Lodge #100 AF&AM, the Ali Ghan Shrine and Railroad Unit, the American Legion Post #13, the VFW 1541, the Fort Hill Rifle and Pistol Club, the N.R.A.; and a lifetime member of the FOP Lodge #90. Red attended Central Assembly of God, loved going to yard sales and flea markets, and collecting antiques and "other stuff." Red was well known for his cooking and candy making. He provided many great meals to several organizations. He was politically motivated and could be seen putting up signs and assisting with many campaigns.
Red is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda (Hannas) Fansler; his daughters, Diana Umstot and husband Donnie, and Marsha Powell; his grandchildren, Dylan Umstot and wife Alyssa, Derek Umstot, Bradley Powell and Breanna Powell; numerous nieces and nephews; his sister-in-law, Kathy Walizer; three brothers, "Donnie" Fansler and wife Nancy, Ronnie Fansler and wife Elaine, and Danny Fansler and wife Kim.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, MD, www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com, on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service will be conducted by the Potomac Lodge #100 AF&AM at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, at 11 a.m., with Chaplain Paul Demers officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
