Delmer Ryan ("Butch") Obituary
Keyser, West Virginia - Delmer "Butch" Ryan, 86, of Keyser, W.Va., was called home on Saturday, May 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
Born on Aug. 17, 1939, in Keyser, W.Va., Butch was a lifelong resident of the community he cherished. He was a son of the late Charles E. and Aletha E. (Inskeep) Ryan. He also was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy "Dottie" (Moyer) Ryan, on Sept. 12, 2020; three sisters, Tracella Lancaster, Karen Keller and Neva Corbin; and four brothers, Elmer, Robert, Neal and Franklin Ryan. Butch was the eighth child of 11 and was the youngest son.
A 1957 graduate of Keyser High School, Butch proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1959-62 as a supply clerk. After his military service, he was employed by the West Virginia Department of Highways for over 40 years.
Butch was a faithful member of the American Legion and the VFW, where he generously gave his time, also supporting Special Olympics. He was an avid sports fan of both baseball and football, and especially enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams, the WVU Mountaineers, Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a great-great-grandfather. He was deeply loved by his family, who treasured every moment spent with him. It was a special moment when Butch made a profession of his faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Surviving are his daughter, Vicki Bennett Clower and husband Mike; granddaughters, Elissa Benton and husband Jimmy, and Vanessa Clark and husband Cody; five great-granddaughters, Daron, Berkeley, Rylee, Reagan and Laurel; one great-grandson, Luke; and three great-great-grandsons, Knoxx, Ryatt and Buckston. Also surviving are his brother, Vernon Ryan; and two sisters, Connie Proietti and Mary Edmondson; along with many extended family members and friends.
As an animal lover, he also leaves behind his faithful companion, Honey Girl, who brought him much joy and comfort.
The family will receive friends at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 76 N. Davis St., Keyser, WV, on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from noon to 1 p.m.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to either Special Olympics or to any animal rescue organization in Butch's name.
The Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
