Dennis Craig Hopwood ("Hoppy") Obituary

Cumberland, MD - Dennis "Hoppy" Craig Hopwood, 79, of Cumberland, MD, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.


Born January 7, 1947 in Cumberland, MD, Mr. Hopwood was the son of the late Thomas Joseph Hopwood, Sr. and Genevieve "Peaches" E. (Wilkinson) Hopwood. He was also preceded in death by a brother: Thomas "Tommy" Hopwood, Jr.; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.


Denny was a graduate of Fort Hill High School Class of 1965 and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the State of Maryland Department of Juvenile Services. He was methodist by faith and was a Lifetime member of the Goodfellowship Club. Hoppy also enjoyed playing on several bowling, shuffleboard, and 8Ball leagues in the area. Hoppy loved his motorcycles and enjoyed taking rides anywhere even on short notice. Denny took great pride in his knowledge of the "Bible."


Hoppy is survived by his wife of 49 years: Leta M. Hopwood; his only daughter: Tracey Hillier; his grandchildren: Sage and Roland Hillier; his brother-in-law: Jim Rankin and wife, Linda; his life-long friends as well as newly acquainted ones: Jim Bennett, Terry Snider, Greg Hare, Jonathan Walburn, Steve Dooley, Henry Brown, Steve Miller, Ricky Williams, Bob and Linda Bealky; Mary Low, Greg Fansler and family; and Regina Fairall and family; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.


Denny had friends as well as his high school classmates that would call him on a weekly basis just to check on him. He looked forward to his weekly lunches with his buddies.


Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD (www.adamsfamilyfuneralhome.com) on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.


A committal service will be conducted at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Rocky Gap on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Denny Michael officiating.


Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.


Denny was deeply loved by his family.
