LaVale, Maryland - Dona Jean (Thomas) LaRue, age 91, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024. Born on May 2, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Angie (Rowlands) Thomas. She came to know Jesus as her personal Savior in 1948.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is preceded in death by brothers, Fred, Bob, David, Calvin; and sister, Olive; husband of 56 years, Roy Clarence LaRue, married Aug. 7, 1954 (he died March 1, 2011).
She is survived by children, David LaRue, LaVale; Paul LaRue, Watauga, Tenn.; JoAnne LaRue, LaVale; also, numerous nieces and nephews.
Longtime member of Eckhart Baptist Church where she was involved in teaching children's Sunday school for many years; working in the AWANA Club and VBS; choir and pianist and organist. Her greatest joy was raising her family and demonstrating the love of Jesus to them as well as others.
Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Wednesday, from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Eckhart Baptist Church, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Matthew Eichhorn officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Eckhart Cemetery.
