Ridgeley, WV - Doris Vivian (Schartiger) Herbaugh, 97, of Ridgeley, W.Va., died April 17, 2025, at home.

Born April 27, 1927, at home in Ridgeley, she was the daughter of the late Delmar Otha and Lena Mae (Feaster) Schartiger.

Doris was a graduate and valedictorian of Ridgeley High School, Class of 1945. She earned her bachelor's degree at West Virginia University in 1948. Later, she also earned her Master's degree in Education.

Doris started her teaching career at Ridgeley Elementary School as a fourth grade teacher. She then taught business classes at Ridgeley High School and Frankfort High School. After retirement, Doris continued to serve as a substitute teacher for approximately five years.

Over the years, Doris had attended Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include her son, Steven Herbaugh; grandson, Frederick Herbaugh; brother John Schartiger and wife Shirley; a nephew, Mark Schartiger and wife Cindy; two nieces, Debbie Beaver and husband Fred and Connie Abe and husband Troy; and, several great-nieces and great-nephews.

As per Doris' wishes, she will be cremated with a private burial at Lahmansville Cemetery.
