Ridgeley, West Virginia - Dorothy "Dottie" Nixon, age 86, of Ridgeley, W.Va., passed away on June 12, 2026, in her daughters' home while watching the birds with her kitty Indigo.

Born on Dec. 29, 1939, in Cumberland, Md., Dorothy was the daughter of Nina Elizabeth Leibrant and Walter G Leibrant. She grew up in Cumberland, Md., and was a graduate of Allegany High School in 1957. She was a member of the inaugural graduating class of Allegany Community College dental hygiene program.

Dottie loved being a dental hygienist and found joy in skiing with her family, golfing with Jim, shopping with her granddaughters, celebrating holidays, attending her granddaughters' sporting events and pageants, and keeping up with family and friends on Facebook. Most importantly, she loved her girls fiercely.

She is survived by daughters, Kathy Rose Riggs, Deborah Elizabeth Nixon and Barbie Sue Nixon; grandchildren, Caleigh Elizabeth Shade, Ella Reese Shade, Tyra Frances Allen; extended family, Dave Shade, Martha Shade, Tim Malloy; and other beloved family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Nutt; son-in-law, Randy Riggs; husband, Gregory Nixon; and companion, Jim Deremer.

The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Bea, Carol, Emily, Jeris, Julie and Loretta, for their love and kindness during the last years of Dottie's life.

A private celebration of life will be held by the family.
