Keyser, West Virginia - Edward Lewis Kooken, 92, of Keyser, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at his home.
Born on October 11, 1932, in Westernport, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Lewis Kooken and Morna Arbutus (Ordner) Kooken. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Kooken; and his sisters, Norma Michaels and Donna McBride. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Ed graduated from Elk Garden High School, Class of 1951, and was a US Navy Veteran, MM1, during the Korean Conflict. He retired after 42 years as a journeyman in the maintenance department at Westvaco's Luke mill. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and was a member of Queen Point VFW Memorial Post 6775, Davis Lodge 51 A.F. and A.M., and Damascus Commandery 23 Templar Knights. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He had many skills that he utilized to build their home, to design and build furniture, and to help others, including his church and the development of the Keyser Chapter of the Mountain Top Crisis Pregnancy Center.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 72 years, Kathleen R. (Junkins) Kooken; his two daughters, Kathy Botteicher of Waynesboro, Va., and Nancy Stahl and husband Dave of State College, Pa.; his five grandchildren, Anna Graham and husband Ben of Lyndhurst, Va., Shelley Mize and husband Benton of Waynesboro, Va., Joshua Rotruck and wife Melody of Lynchburg, Va., Matt Stahl of Port Matilda, Pa., and Nate Stahl of State College, Pa.; and his fourteen great grandchildren in Va.
Friends will be received on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the Markwood Funeral Home from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the funeral home at 11 a.m., with Reverends Shirley and Dr. Stephon Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
