Ellen Louise (Ginevan) Davis Obituary

LaVale, MD - Ellen Louise (Ginevan) Davis, 92, of LaVale, Md., passed away at the Country House Residence under hospice care on June 12, 2025.

She was born November 22, 1932, to Elwood "Yonk" and Pearl (Shrout) Ginevan in Oldtown, Md.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Hubert Ralph "Nook" Davis; and brothers, George, Russell, James, Thomas and Richard (Randy); and sisters, DeLoris, Beverly, and Carolyn (Pat).

She is survived by sisters, Doris Miller and Linda Gross; and brother, Elwood (Mouse) Ginevan; two sons and their spouses, Roger and Barbara Davis, Scott and Rowena Davis; five grandchildren and their spouses, Melanie and Adam Allison, Ashely and Kelly Davis, Sean and Ashley Davis, Ryan Davis, and Paige Davis; and six great grandchildren, Hayden Allison, Brecken Allison, Camden Allison, Riley Davis, Brayden Davis and Fiona Davis.

Ellen graduated from Oldtown High School, Class of 1950, with a perfect attendance record of which she was very proud. She attended Catherman's Business School and in her early years worked at the Oldtown Toll Bridge, McCrory's 5 and 10, and the Celanese Corporation. She followed her husband's military career assignments by working as a secretary, as a civil servant to the Army and Air Force at various bases located in California, Virginia, Alaska, Hawaii, South Carolina, and the Philippines. She retired at the age of 55 after serving a distinguished 25 years of service.

Ellen was a skilled seamstress who made many of her own dresses as well as shirts for her husband and children. She also loved to crochet before arthritis robbed her of that passion.

After retirement, she continued to be a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family. She spent her time supporting her children and grandchildren in all aspects of their lives. One of her biggest joys in life was to be with and around her family.

She and her husband often visited the Oldtown United Methodist Church, where she was a former member, participating in social functions.

Heartfelt thank yous also go to the special caregivers at the Country House Residence, the Hospice team, and her special caregiver Sue Richards.

Friends and family will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Thursday, June 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Friday, June 20 at 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Funeral Service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 20 with Pastor Charles Riggleman and Rev.
