Cumberland, Maryland - Emma Jean White, known affectionately as "Jean," passed away on July 20, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Moorefield, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Parren and Maude (Funkhouser) Helmick.

Jean was the last surviving sibling of 10 children, preceded in death by her four brothers and five sisters. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene Hedrick; her second husband, Wayne A. White; and her stepson, Wayne Allen White.

Jean's life was defined by a strong work ethic and a heart for service. She worked at the Schwab Sewing Factory and Westin's Department Store before retiring as the dietary supervisor at the Finan Center.

A devoted member of Zion United Methodist Church, she shared her faith by teaching Sunday school and volunteering in the nursery.

Her civic leadership was equally impactful; as a member of the Cumberland Lions Club, she served as secretary for 26 years and president for one. Along with her late husband Wayne, she founded the Mid-Atlantic Grand Fiddle, Banjo, and Mandolin Championship and directed that event for 26 years. For her dedicated humanitarian service, she was honored with the prestigious Melvin Jones Award.

Raised on the family farm in Fort Run outside of Moorefield, W.Va., Jean was proud to be a coal miner's daughter, and she loved to tell stories about her experiences growing up there.

She was a woman of many talents who found joy in sewing, crocheting, genealogy, canning and baking. She was rarely without a cryptogram puzzle or a good book, but her greatest joy was her family.

Jean is survived by her children, Ladonna (Kim) Seifarth, Holly (Juan) Arrisueno, Pamela (Billy) Rowley, Ginger Hedrick, Christa White and Sam (Amanda Paul) White. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Sharon (Joe) Harrell, Susan (Mike) Sanders and Darrin (Beth) White; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom had many friends through the years, and we would like to thank her very close friend and roommate, Carol Poling, for her devotion and support over these last several months at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, MD 21502, www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com, on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon. A funeral service will follow at noon, with Darrin White officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Ray Wills III, Travis Forbeck, Nathan Forbeck and Samuel Paul-White; her great-grandsons, Matthew and Jeremy Shaneybrook; great-nephew, Dylan Hose; and a son-in-law, Kim Seifarth.

Honorary pallbearer will be her grandson, Darrin White Jr.
