Gene Ray House Obituary

Lonaconing, Maryland - Gene Ray House, of Lonaconing, was welcomed into Heaven on Feb. 2, 2024. He was the son of the late Geraldine and Vernon Whiteman. Gene graduated from Valley High School and married Cassandra (Sandy) shortly after and moved to New Jersey. He went on to work at Stroehmann's Bakery and then to Westvaco and Mead-New Page where he retired after over 37 years. Gene was a husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman; he was a hunter, trapper, and rifleman, but most of all a craftsman. Gene could study anything and figure out how to make it to perfection. He built guns, flint and steel strikers, tied flies, and made leather goods. Gene was a primitive camper, where he and his family would stay in a tepee, dress in period clothing, and live as the fur trappers did in the 1800's.

Gene is survived by his wife, Cassandra (Sandy); his daughter, Jenean (Tony) Fazenbaker; his son, Nathan House; and his grandchildren, Maddox and Dahlia House. Also, he is survived by his sisters, Debbie (Thomas) Smith and Robin (late James) Wiegand.

There will be a memorial service at Bethel Holiness Church on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, it was Gene's request that donations be made to Bethel Holiness Church in his memory.

The family would like to thank Egle Nursing Home for his compassionate care during his time there.
