Geraldine "Gerry" (Collins) Heavner Obituary

Cumberland, Maryland - Geraldine (Collins) Heavner passed away on Dec. 1, 2025, at the age of 86 at UPMC Western Maryland. Born Oct. 7, 1939, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William (Shorty) V. Collins and the late Irene Miller Collins of Cumberland. Gerry was a graduate of Fort Hill High School Class of 1957.

Gerry worked at Mason's Snack Bar and Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. In 1962, she and Richard (Dick) Heavner were married and resided in Rockville and Gaithersburg until 1968, when they returned to Cumberland to assist in managing Collins GMC Truck upon Shorty's sudden passing. She was pre-deceased by a brother, William Alex Collins Sr.

Gerry is survived by husband of 63 years, Richard Heavner Sr.; sister, Vivian Collins Pittman; son, Richard Allan Heavner Jr., wife, Lori Hopwood Heavner; and daughter, Cheryl Lynne Wilfong and husband Kenny Wilfong (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.). Also surviving are two granddaughters, Brandi Heavner Krampf and husband Dan; Brittany Wilfong Nick and husband Tony (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.); and two great-grandsons, Shelby Nick and Asher Krampf.

Sisters and brothers in-law surviving are Ina Collins, Sarah Heavner, Mitzie Heavner, Merel Chaney Sr., Bessie Park, Alice Young, Betsey Heavner, Ronald and Janet Heavner, and Rose Rubin; and many nieces and nephews.

Gerry was active in Center Street UMC, the 4-H, Toys for Happiness, and Allegheny Highlands Trail. Gerry was a 4-H Maryland All-Star and was inducted into the Maryland 4-H Hall of Fame in 2009. Gerry was owner and office manager of Collins GMC-Oldsmobile in Motor City until sold in 2003, when she went on to enjoy a great retirement.

In her younger days, Gerry enjoyed square dancing, baking, camping and riding bikes. She could be found teaching her granddaughters, as well as many young 4-H members, lessons in cooking and sewing. Gerry delighted in traveling the country by motorhome, having visited 48 states throughout her travels. She especially enjoyed her granddaughters and great-grandsons.

Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, MD 21502, www.adamsfamilyfuneralhome.com, on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Bernadette Ross officiating. Friends will also be received one hour prior.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
