Augusta, WV - Harry A. Garvin, 86, of Augusta, W.Va., died peacefully May 1, 2026, at his daughter's home.

Born Oct. 7, 1939, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of the late Harry C. Garvin and Catherine P. (Tritapoe) Garvin.

He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Bonnie Jean (Hockman) Garvin.

Harry was a graduate of Brunswick High School and Shepherd University.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960-1962, earning the rank of lieutenant.

Harry's career with CSX Transportation spanned 32 years. He was a supervisor at the Cumberland yard, managing daily operations. After his retirement, Harry enjoyed being a substitute teacher at Hampshire High School, making lasting friendships with the students.

Harry belonged to Christ Episcopal Church and Brunswick Lodge #191 A.F. & A.M; 32nd Degree, Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies; Past Potentate (1999) of Ali Ghan Shrine, member of the Directors' Staff and Highlanders' Unit, and Past Director (2004) Cumberland Court #117, R.O.J. While Potentate, Harry and Bonnie supported the Masonic youth organizations with their projects and attended many of their events.

Harry was an avid reader and history buff. He continued to play the bagpipes at functions throughout the community.

Survivors include his devoted daughters, Kelli Airis and husband Brian, and Melisssa Worthington and husband Michael; precious granddaughter, Lindsay Worthington; and sister, Cecelia (Garvin) Ashby and husband Bucky.

Friends will be received at Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. Brunswick Lodge #191 A.F.& A.M. will conduct a memorial service at 6:45 p.m. Military honors will be accorded by Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
