Helen Jean (Caldwell) Brown, 82, of Bunker Hill, W.Va., passed peacefully from this life into her eternal life on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility after a long courageous fight.
She was the daughter of the late Richard D. Caldwell and Helen M. Ashby Caldwell and the wife of the late Richard A. Brown. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Brown; brothers, James and Richard Caldwell; brothers-in-law, Robert and Ralph Brown; and grandson, Manuel Knighting III.
Born Feb. 24, 1937, in Keyser, W.Va., Jean was the fourth child of eight children and was a graduate of Keyser High School in 1955. She and her husband, Richard, were married on June 5, 1955. She was a teacher's aide early in her life and, after the birth of her son, became a dedicated homemaker and mother. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Inwood, a lifetime member of Jefferson County FFA, a member of Homemakers Club of America, and a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3518, Keyser.
Jean loved people and never met a stranger whom she didn't hug during her 82 years here with us. She was a mother, caregiver and counselor to many during her long life. She shared her love of Jesus and importance of salvation without hesitation, even up to her last few days. She touched the lives of so many with her famous "Birthday Song." She loved her grandchildren and was so proud sharing their accomplishments with others. She always cared for them and enjoyed her special times with them, sharing toys and stories from her childhood.
She is survived by her son, Eric Brown and wife, Jennifer who was her special angel, Martinsburg, W.Va.; daughter, Anna Marie Marquez, Bunker Hill; grandchildren, Colin, Conor and Caden Brown, Martinsburg; and great-grandchildren, Manuel, Nina and Gemma; her brothers, Douglas Caldwell and wife, Joetta, Keyser, John and wife, Pat, and Thomas and wife, Norma, Burlington, W.Va., and Robert and wife, Marion, Deer Park; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own children. She also has friends too numerous to name that were a part of her extended family.
Family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Inwood on March 4, 2019, from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Inwood on March 5, 2019, at 11 a.m.
Graveside services will follow at Bunker Hill Cemetery.
