Homer M. Lafferty
Born Dec. 9, 1932, in Madley Hollow, Buffalo Mills, Pa., he was a son of the late Lester and Veda (Miller) Lafferty. He was also preceded in death in 2012 by his wife, Roxann M. (Willison) Lafferty, whom he married Feb. 23, 1957. At the time of her passing, they had been married 55 years. Also, he was preceded in death by infant twin brothers, Ed and Edgar Lafferty; brothers, Melvin, Joe and Fred Lafferty; and a sister, Marcelle Dietz.
Surviving are a son, Michael Lafferty and wife, Diana, of Hyndman; granddaughter, Amber Fetter and husband, Staff Sgt. Japheth Fetter, of Clarksville, Tenn.; sister, Dorothy Keller, of Bedford; and many nieces and nephews.
Homer graduated from Schellsburg Napier School, Class of 1951. He was drafted into the U.S. Army shortly out of high school and served in Korea from 1951 to 1953. Homer worked at Kelly Springfield Tire for 30 years until it closed in 1987, then at Hedstrom Corporation, STC Trucking and the Golden Rule Lumber.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, a 50-year member of Hyndman Londonderry Lion's Club, where he was honored with the Melvin Jones Award, and Hyndman VFW Oscar Jordan Post 7375. He enjoyed hunting mushroom and ginseng and was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
Friends will be received at Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home Inc., 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, on Friday, July 19, 2019, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Lion's Club service at 8 p.m. and a VFW service at 8:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, July 20, at 11 a.m. with Pastors Fred Zickefoose and Dave Klink officiating.
Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery with military honors by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hyndman Londonderry Lion's Club, c/o Bob Lehman, 7345 Hyndman Road, Buffalo Mills, PA 15534.
