Imogene Dye Colby Obituary
Roanoke, Virginia - Imogene Dye Colby
August 16, 1937 - May 22, 2026
Imogene Dye Colby, lovingly known by many simply as "Imogene," passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born and raised in Haysi, Va., Imogene was the daughter of George and Sylvia Sutherland Dye. She graduated from Haysi High School before attending Radford College. It was during that time that she met the love of her life, Robert Paul "Bob" Colby, who was attending Virginia Tech. The two dated for over two years before marrying in April 1958.
Together, they built a beautiful life centered around love, family and unwavering devotion to one another. Imogene was a devoted wife and mother who loved her husband and children more than anything. She and Bob shared more than 60 years together, building a life that was full of love, travel and memories. Theirs was the kind of marriage that reminds you soulmates are real.
Imogene found joy in life's simple but meaningful things: tending to her flowers and garden, scrapbooking memories, playing bridge and bingo, and volunteering her time at the local clothes closet. She was a truly kind soul — gentle, caring and always teaching those around her, especially her children, the importance of kindness, compassion and of treating others well.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Paul Colby; her sister, Eliza Dye Byers (Leonard); and several half siblings.
Though her family grieves deeply, they find comfort in knowing she is once again beside the love of her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Colby Castelluccio (Dominick); her son, Scott Douglas Colby (Kathy); her sister, Patsy Dye Conner (Charlie); her grandsons, Brett Colby Fisher (Aja) and Blake Robert Fisher; her granddaughters, Taylor Elaine Blennert and Aleesha Skye Patterson; her great-grandsons, Gabriel Colby Fisher and Nolan Wilder Blennert; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends whose lives were touched by her kindness.
The family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to the nurses, CNAs and staff at Star City Nursing Home and Legacy Hospice for the compassion, care and kindness they showed Imogene during her final days. Their support, comfort and love meant more than words can express.
Imogene will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Va., at a later date.
Her family will remember her always for her gentle heart, enduring love, quiet strength and the lasting example she set of what it means to truly care for others. The love, kindness and values she poured into her family will continue to live on for generations to come.
