James Joseph Davis Sr. ("J.J.") Obituary

New Creek, WV - James Joseph "J.J." Davis, 88, of New Creek, W.Va., died Monday, April 14, 2025, at his residence while under the care of WVU Medicine Hospice.

Born on Sept. 5, 1936, in Cumberland, Md., he was a son of the late William W. and Ethel Mae (Ervin) Davis. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel May (George) Davis; a son, Bill Davis; a great-granddaughter, Josephine Manion; a son-in-law, Doug Kalbaugh; a brother, Scott Davis; and two sisters, Jackie Goebel and Helen Hurst.

Mr. Davis was a 1955 graduate of Keyser High School and was employed for over 40 years at the Westvaco Luke Mill as a maintenance journeyman. A renowned auctioneer in the area, J.J. owned and operated the Ridgeville Auction House and Antiques for over 40 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed playing baseball in his youth and in high school and was a member of Lodge # 662, Loyal Order of Moose in Keyser. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends.

Surviving are his children, James J. "Jimmy Joe" Davis, Jr. and wife Jill of Burlington, W.Va. and Debra L. Kalbaugh of Keyser, W.Va.; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Davis of Ohio; a sister, Sally Morrisey of Ohio; six grandchildren, Andrea Davis and lifelong partner, Frank Manion, Sarah Davis, Destiney Davis, Jason Rotruck, Kendra Fields and Alea Anne Corral; and nine great-grandchildren, Atreyu Lewis, Sophia Manion, Ava Lee Tephabock, Liam Rotruck, Caroline Manion, Brayden Rich, Trinity Rich, Matthew Donaldson and Tate James. Also surviving is his canine companion and best friend, "Tiny."

Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 12 until 2 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 2 p.m., with Pastor Joshua Miller officiating.

Interment will be in the Omega-Alpha Cemetery, Short Gap, W.Va.
