Springfield - SPRINGFIELD, W.Va. [mdash] James Roger "Jim" Woodson Sr., age 77, of Springfield, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Born July 24, 1946, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late James D. and Dorothy (Frye) Woodson. Besides his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his brother, Robert E. "Bob" Woodson, Sr.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverley J. "Jeanie" Woodson of Springfield; his son, James R. "Jimmy" Woodson Jr. and wife, Toni, of Springfield; his daughters, Tammy S. Woodson of Springfield and Jessica R. Lloyd and husband, Nathan, of Fort Ashby; his grandchildren, Lisa Kidwell (Joe), Brittney Carder (RJ), Brooke Vesledahl (Josh), Brittnay Shuck (Chad), Samantha Woodson, Donald Woodson, and Micaela Woodson; and 19 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Myrna L. Woodson, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jim was raised in Springfield and graduated from Romney High School with the Class of 1964. He and Jeanie married on September 14, 1965, and the couple started their family. He had worked on the family farm before joining the Iron Workers Local 568 out of Cumberland in 1967. After retiring from the Local 568 in 1997, Jim went back to helping out on the family farm and cutting firewood for a hobby. He was also a member of the Springfield Valley Volunteer Fire Company for several years.

Jim loved all sports, especially softball. He played for many years all over the area. He was an outdoorsman who was a dedicated hunter and enjoyed working in his gardens.

He loved to hang out and cut up with the guys at the local stores in Springfield. He was quite the jokester.

Jim was a family man who loved and enjoyed his grandchildren very much and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney. A Celebration of Jim's Life will immediately follow at 4 p.m. with Dan Dennison officiating.
