James Muir ("Fish") Obituary
Lonaconing, MD - James "Fish" Muir, 94, of Lonaconing, died Thursday, April 9, 2026, at UPMC Western Maryland, Cumberland. Born Jan. 19, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he was the son of the late John James Muir and Mary (Smith) Muir.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Kathryn Elaine Muir; two sons, Dan and Jim Muir; and his only brother, Robert "Fish" Muir. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his county as a structural aviation mechanic. After he returned from the military, he worked for the B&O Railroad, ABL, and finally retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Co. After his retirement, he never stopped; he continued to work with his friend, Frank Stark, doing forestry work. When he had down time, he enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting, trapping and finding ginseng. He also loved being in the basement, woodworking.
He was Catholic by faith and a proud member of the Barton American Legion Post #189.
He leaves behind five children, Maureen Dye and husband Butch of Lonaconing, Ed Muir and wife Robin of Bowie, Mary Ellen Turner of Lonaconing, Kathy Foor and husband Tom of Bedford, and Joe Muir and wife Janine of Hurlock; 13 grandchildren, Jimmy, Jesse, Jordan, Angie, Janel, Kate, Jennie, Matthew, Kristen, Kathi Jo, Michael, Jacob and Mackenzie; 16 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sherry Muir of Lonaconing; sister-in-law, Tillie O'Rourke Rivenbank and husband Dave; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from noon to 2 p.m. at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. Barton American Legion Post #189 will hold a service at 1:30 p.m. At 2 p.m., the Rev. Dr. Alexa Smith will officiate the memorial service. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
At the request of the family, memorial donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Egle Nursing Home Activities Department at 57 Jackson St., Lonaconing, MD 21539.
The family would like to thank the staff of Egle Nursing and Rehab Center for the exceptional care, kindness and love they gave to Jim.
Jim had a good life, wonderful family, amazing friends and special memories. Now he's fishing in Heaven.
