Hagerstown, Maryland - James Leslie Roby Jr., 88, of Hagerstown, passed away Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, at Ravenwood Assisted Living.

Born Feb. 17, 1933, in Little Orleans, he was the son of the late James Leslie Roby Sr. and Clara (McDonald) Roby.

He was a 1952 graduate of Fort Hill High School and served in the U. S. Army and the Army Reserves.

He was retired and previously employed by Allegany Ballistic Lab in Keyser, W.Va., Mack Trucks, and F & M Bank in Hagerstown.

James was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church since 1965.

He was also a member of HasBeens Boxing in Cumberland, the Golden Gloves, and has boxed at Madison Square Gardens.

He belonged to the West End Lions Club and the Chewsville Lions Club and received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.

A Master Mason, he was a member of James Bowers Lodge 173.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Wanda Roby; one son, James L. Roby III; one daughter, Barbara Roby; and one sister, Donna Martin.

He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Lynne Roby and Tamera Joyce Bailey and husband, John; three grandchildren, Scott Bailey (Katharine), Kaitlin Press (Andrew) and Devon Roby; and great-grandchildren, Lily, Bodhi, and Mae Bailey.

Services will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown, Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Michael Seger will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to services on Tuesday.
